he Executive Mayor of Mogale City, Lynn Pannall wishes the residents of the city and neighbours an adventure-filled World Tourism Day.
The formal observation of World Tourism Day started on 27 September 1980.
“We are celebrating this important day after the city hosted a high-profile roundtable with Premier David Makhura at Maropeng Visitor Centre in the Cradle of Humankind over the weekend,” said the Executive Mayor.
“We will host the prestigious Gauteng Sports Awards this Sunday, where 153 awards will be presented to sportsmen and women, administrators and supporters. The event will be held at the Silverstar Casino after finalists embarked on excursions at our famous tourism sites.”
The finalists will be accommodated at Usambara Venue & Conference Centre and Misty Hills.
Mogale City offers Africa’s “Big Five” at tourism establishments that dot the tranquil city and which are a stone’s throw away from one another. The Krugersdorp Game Reserve has more than 30 mammal species that include hippos, zebras, giraffes and black wildebeest.
The Rhino and Lion Park, which offers luxury game drives, has white rhino, crocodiles and birds of prey such as the endangered black eagle.
“Tourism offers more than a wonderful and adventure-filled experience for tourists who can visit tourism establishments like Lesedi Cultural Village in the Cradle of Humankind. This helps in our effort to establish an enabling environment for job creation. The Department of Tourism calculates that tourism supports one in every 12 jobs in the country,” added a delighted Executive Mayor.
