The holiday season is filled with happiness and celebration, but it can also be a time of danger for road users. It is known that everyone around this time of the year is in a hurry trying to wrap up their shopping and enjoy festive celebrations. But as you’re going around town, it’s vital to keep road safety top of mind, as the streets are busier than usual.
This message is aimed at reminding motorists of simple behaviours that can help them and their families. Motorists and pedestrians alike share the responsibility of keeping themselves and others on the road safe. Residents are urged to be more careful on the roads. Here are a few friendly tips from the municipalities Traffic, Security and VIP protection section to ensure your Festive season is a safe one:
– Make sure your vehicle is in a road worthy condition before leaving on holiday.
– Plan your route, and if all possible travel during the day and stay on the highways.
– Do not speed, you only gain a couple of minutes from Mogale City to any destination, it’s not worth your life to gain 5 minutes.
– Respect other road users.
– Look out and think for other road users and pedestrians.
– Do not stop in remote areas.
– Return home safely
– And don’t drink and drive.
Chief Superintendent, Jimmy Keet said: “Mogale City Traffic officers will be on the roads during the whole festive season. We will engage in various road safety programmes with the other Law Enforcement agencies and conduct daily road checks on roadworthiness, drunken driving and other offences”.
Mogale City Local Municipality is therefore calling upon all visitors and the people of the city to enjoy the festive season responsibly and ensure that they are safe on the road. This is also to warn that public safety officers will be visible on the road.
Please assist in making the roads safer for all because road safety is every person’s responsibility. The City wishes all citizens a merry and safe festive season.
