The municipality will intensify its water conservation and demand management programme. We will be using the Mayoral Roadshows that will take place next month as well as other platforms to engage with residents and all sectors of society to actively contribute towards the success of the water conservation and demand management campaign.

We commend conscientious residents who have reported water leaks to the municipality. We will strive to fix all reported and visible water leaks within the 12 hour turnaround time to which we committed.

The municipality is aware of households and businesses that bypass water metres and has assigned inspectors to identify such consumers. Anyone found to have transgressed will be liable for a R20 000 spot fine, cut-off and/or reduction of water supply as per the by-laws of the municipality.

“We can achieve much when we cooperate,” the Executive mayor said. “Let us encourage one another to change attitudes and behaviour in order to save water, our life-giving resource. We also urge communities to consider praying for rain.”
