Illegal power connections in Munsieville have, in the past 24 hours, caused the burnout of a sectionaliser switch which poses an increased electrocution risk from all exposed illegal wires.

Mogale City Local Municipality urges extreme caution in the Munsieville area, as the illegal connections now carry a much higher voltage, and are extremely dangerous.

Mogale City Executive Mayor Lynn Pannall said, “The risk of electrocution in Munsieville is now greatly increased. We plead with the community to not handle electrical wires that form illegal connections.”

Illegal connections are repeatedly being made by tripping the Munsieville substation, which causes an ongoing breaking-strain on the substation trip switch which has now failed and burned-out.

Replacement of this part will cost the city close to R350,000.00 and the part must be procured due to this unforeseen failure and burnout.

The Executive Mayor said, “Our pledge to the people of Mogale is that we want better living conditions for all residents and proper electricity connections are key.”
