Mogale City Executive Mayor Councillor Lynn Pannall together with the Speaker of Council Patrick Lipuli reopened the much anticipated Krugersdorp West Swimming Pool.

Councillor Panall, accompanied by Sports, Arts, Culture and Recreation Member of the Mayoral Committee Councillor Themba Mokoena and Social Services Executive Manager Shirley Mathebula, reopened the swimming pool to the public.

In her address, the executive mayor said swimming plays a critical role in rejuvenating the body. “It is great pleasure to reopen this swimming pool for the Krugersdorp West community. This really shows that our municipality is taking care of its community.

”She said the reopening of the swimming pool is the city’s contribution to healthy lifestyles for Mogale City residents. “Our municipal lifesavers will be here to make sure that our children swim safely and this will mean that fewer children will be on the streets.”

“We hope that the community, more so children, will cherish this revamped facility and take good care of it. We also want to implore on our people to look after this facility and protect it from vandalism and abuse. This is one of the projects that the municipality is taking up as part of its recreational projects,” Councillor Panall concluded.

The multimillion rand Olympic size swimming pool has a kiddie’s pool and ablution facilities as well as lifesaving guard’s room. The facility also features security fence around the two pools, four gates, a porter’s rooms as well as a kitchen for the staff.

Councillor Lipuli added his voice and said: “We are proud to reopen this swimming pool for the Krugersdorp West community. This long awaited event shows that our municipality has the interest of the community at heart and wants to produce good swimmers in future.”

Councillor Pannall also indicated that while the city is playing its part making Mogale City a safe place to live and invest, the municipality is also launching a Drug and Prostitution Task Team.
