Newly elected councillors began a five-day Integrated Councillor Induction Programme held at Mogale City Local Municipality’s Centenary Hall today.
The induction programme is rolled out by the South African Local Government Association (SALGA) through SALGA Centre for Leadership and Governance (SCLG) as its implementation arm for leadership development.
According to SALGA’s Seana Nkhahle, the programme is tailored for both new and returning councillors. “The objectives of this programme is to ensure that councillors are competent in the areas of leadership and legislation that is applicable to local government‚ key municipal processes and developmental local government as well as service delivery,” Nkhahle said.
Sessions for newly elected councillors will be over five consecutive days to orientate them on their roles and responsibilities while returning councillors will be given a refresher induction offered through contact sessions or e-learning.
Newly elected Mogale City Executive Mayor Cllr Lynn Pannall and her new mayoral committee were also in attendance.
