South Africa’s spring flowers in all their abundance will be the stars of this year’s Spring Festival at Garden World from 25 July to 30 August.

Under the theme ‘Nature’s Bounty’, 17 designer gardens will showcase the wealth of indigenous plants and flowers, tying in with this year’s Kirstenbosch South Africa Chelsea Exhibit titled South Africa in Bloom; 40 years at the Chelsea Flower Show.

The Chelsea Exhibit, which Mogale City Local Municipality supports, will include a display of ‘Plants South Africa Gave the World’ and a named flower specimen display. For local gardeners, the Walter Sisulu Botanical Garden will be creating a show garden highlighting original ways to use indigenous plants in city gardens.

A herb morning on ‘Teas for Health and Vitality’ will be held on 22 August presented by herb authority Margaret Roberts and her daughter Sandy, who have just published a book on the subject. They will focus on healthy teas, herbal tea tasting, foods that aid memory, weight, arthritis, gouts, digestion and many more common ailments.

On display throughout the festival will be school gardens, children’s box gardens, Gauteng Flora Union and Interflora’s magnificent floral exhibits as well as educational exhibits by Rand Water’s Water Wise, North West University and Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo.

Garden World, which recently received a Gold Award from the South African Nursery Association (SANA), is on Beyers Naudé Drive in Muldersdrift.
