As the Gauteng Department of Human Settlements in collaboration with Housing Development Agency and Mogale City Human Settlements continue to improve the living conditions of residents and building sustainable communities thought affordable housing projects, our Energy Services is equally keeping up with the demand for electricity.

The Munsieville Extension 9 Housing Development and associated bulk network are the latest projects to be electrified. Both household connections and bulk network were funded by the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy (DMRE) in line with the Integrated National Electrification Programme.

Mogale City is pleased to inform residents that 70 housing units which were completed and occupied in December 2023 are now completely electrified and will be properly billed thus support the township economy. The electrification switch on ceremony for the 70 units was held earlier this week led by Executive Mayor Danny Thupane, Energy Services officials and DMRE representatives.

The ceremony was directed by Energy Services Manager Given Masuku who pleaded with members of the community to look after electricity infrastructure as cable theft and vandalism are on the rise during loadshedding – the repair and replacement of vandalised infrastructure costs the municipality and rate payers millions of rands. He further cautioned against illegal connections which undermine the municipality’s ability to provide safe and reliable electricity to all residents in addition to substantial revenue loss for the municipality.

Thus far, 70 housing units have been electrified and allocated as part of Phase 1 of the project. 86 units are still under construction and will soon be allocated to conclude Phase 2 while 75 units will be constructed in the third and final phase of the project. This phased housing development project is expected to be completed in March 2025.
