In a month dedicated to fostering social development and acknowledging the invaluable contributions of elderly members of our society, October takes on a special significance as Social Development Month. This annual celebration is a testament to our nation’s unwavering commitment to caring not only for the most vulnerable such as the poor and disabled but also to honour and protect children and the youth.

In Mogale City, our Social Development Division was setup with the intention of fighting poverty, providing support to the most vulnerable members of our communities and aiding to reduce socio-economic impacts of HIV/AIDS in individual households and communities. These goals are further supported by initiatives such as but not limited to elderly, gender and nutritional support programmes, Grant-in-Aid, Local Drug Action Committees for substance abuse prevention, Indigent management Programme and Non-Profit Organisation programmes.

Furthermore, the commencement of this meaningful month was marked by the observation of International Older Person’s Month on 1 October, a global initiative designed to recognise and honour the wisdom, experiences and resilience of our senior citizens. Against this backdrop, 27 October promises to be a special day in Mogale as our Social Development Division caps off this special month by hosting an Older Persons Beauty Pegeant that will showcase the enduring beauty and wisdom of the city’s golden oldies and prove that age is not a barrier to elegance and charm.

While we continue to shine a spotlight on Social Development services, we encourage qualifying individuals to apply for our Indigent Management Programme, Grant-in-Aid, Pensioner’s Rebate and related offerings. Details are on www.mogalecity.gov.za.
