Following this morning’s investigation stemming from discoloured tap water reports, our technical team has identified a Rand Water burst pipe as the source. Due to this pipe burst, red sand seeped into the water pipelines leading to discolouration (redness). The burst pipe has however been isolated as soon as identified as the cause.
Thus far, the team has made good progress flushing discoloured water out of the main pipelines and water is beginning to gradually clear in most affected areas. Water Services also wishes to assure consumers that the cleared water is safe to drink, however further required tests will still be conducted to ensure that the municipal water system is not contaminated.
