Vandalism and theft of electrical cables
Energy Services is aware of ongoing power outages affecting parts of the city. These outages are due to acts of vandalism and cable theft at Eskom’s Krugersdorp mini-substation Feeder 4, which supplies Kenmare, Factoria, Chamdor, Mindalore and Noordheuwel. Although Eskom technicians are on site and the extent of the damage has been assessed, repair materials must be sourced before restoration work can begin. Unfortunately, an estimated time for power restoration cannot be provided at this stage.
Impact on water supply
This vandalism has also disrupted water pumping operations, as the system relies heavily on electricity. As a result, large parts of the city are experiencing low water pressure or no water supply. To minimise the impact on residents, water tankers will be deployed to the most affected areas starting from midday. Currently, tankers are servicing informal settlements as part of their daily routine.
Please note that water pressure is also low at tanker fill-up stations which may cause delays, we thus ask for your patience and understanding. Exact locations of water tanker deployments will be shared after midday, once tankers have refilled and are dispatched.
We urge residents to remain patient during this challenging time.
